EUROPEAN CHAMPIONSHIP

The Norwegian Shooting Sport Federation first hosted the EC 10 metres in 1980 in Oslo and then in 1988 in Stavanger.

In 2010 the EC will be arranged in Meråker, a small community in the Nord Trøndelag county inhabited by 2700 people. Meråker is located in the middle part of Norway, approx. 50 miles from the city of Trondheim and only 12 miles from the Swedish border. 

A few days before the first competition of the European Championship, qualification for the Summer Youth Olympic Games 10 metres, rifle and pistol will be arranged.

Qualification rounds of the Championship will be arranged on a in door football ground coated with artificial grass while all the finals are arranged on flooring in a handball court next to the football ground.

Since the upper secondary school in Meråker gives their students the opportunity to specialize in five different sports activities, shooting being one, the community has long traditions for arranging sports events. This is however the first time an international championship in shooting is arranged there.

Arranging the international Hell Open competition, rifle and pistol 10 metres inside the Rica Hell Hotel approx 30 miles from Meråker for the last 5 years has given staff and organizers necessary experience for handling a championship of this size.

This was a major reason why the Norwegian Shooting Sport Federation decided to let this region of Norway host the championship.

Due to the fact that the championship is not hosted by a big city, it is our intention that this will be a championship full of different and spectacular experiences.

We sincerely hope that competitors, officials, media and spectators will experience exciting competitions and a pleasant stay in Meråker the one week in March 2010
